Internal Medicine and Geriatrics
Dr. R. Maurice Bonilla is one of a limited number of physicians in the Tampa Bay area who is Board Certified in Geriatrics. In addition to his Weight Management and Internal Medicine practice, he also has many Geriatric patients whom he proudly serves.
The care of the elderly is an often ignored specialty in Medicine as it requires a great deal of patience and personal sacrifice on the part of the physician. Our elderly should be our most respected, admired and appreciated members of society and physicians must be trained to handle the complications and delicate human emotions which often accompany the aging process. Dr. Bonilla has practiced Geriatric Medicine for many years and has been honored and blessed to guide his patients through much of their adult lives. He has learned much from his aging patients and their accumulated wisdom has enriched his life in many ways.
Dr. Bonilla has always stressed preventative care, weight management and healthy living to his patients as an integral part of his practice.
Diagnostic Tests Available Within Internal Medicine Practice:

Concierge Medicine Without The Fee
Over the past few years, due to the burdens that managed care has placed upon physicians, many primary care physicians have quite understandably decided to limit the number of active patients in their practice and charge those patients remaining in their practice a flat fee ranging from $1000 to $15,000 per year (not including insurance charges). These added fees cover guaranteed sick day visits, little or no wait times, personalized and prompt attention to phone calls and quality care. This phenomenon has come to be known as “Concierge Medicine”. These are services which Dr. Bonilla has always provided to his patients and which he considers to be the responsibility and hallmark of any caring physician. Therefore, there is no extra charge to become or remain a patient of Dr. Bonilla’s.
Because Dr. Bonilla believes that providing timely, prompt and competent care is the most important aspect of his profession, he has decided to severely limit the number of insurance plans that he contracts with. This enables him to make medically complex decisions with only his patient’s best interests at heart; without having to justify every test or prescription or hospital admission to a far away bureaucrat who knows nothing about his patient and inherently has a conflict of interest. Dr. Bonilla can devote most of his office time to patient care rather than bureaucratic paperwork and compliance with insurance rules which many times are not in the best clinical interests of the patient.
Patients are always free to see Dr. Bonilla “out of network” and our office will gladly file all insurance claims to help the patient get reimbursed for out of pocket expenses. Labwork and outside testing are usually covered by insurance even if an out of network physician is utilized. We are now accepting United Healthcare and Blue Cross PPO.
